Incident Overview

Last week, a violent altercation involving a Samurai-style sword left one woman dead and two others hospitalized in Los Angeles.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD) is currently investigating the circumstances that led to the deadly confrontation.

Discovery of the Scene

The incident came to light when LASD deputies were flagged down by a bloodied woman on a residential street in San Dimas.

The woman had visible cuts on her right leg and hands and was holding a Samurai-style sword. Upon the deputies’ orders, she placed the sword down and raised her hands, as reported by the New York Post.

According to LASD Lt. Daniel Vizcarra, the injured woman directed deputies to a nearby home where they discovered another woman who had been slashed to death.

She was pronounced dead at the scene. A third woman, present in the house, was rushed to a hospital due to a medical emergency, believed to be a heart attack. She was reportedly not injured in the sword attack.

Language Barrier Challenges

The investigation is facing challenges due to a language barrier, as the involved women speak only Mandarin Chinese.

This has slowed the process of determining the exact sequence of events and the motives behind the attack. Lt. Vizcarra mentioned during a press conference that preliminary findings suggest a possible family connection among the women, but this has not been confirmed.

Security Footage

A video obtained by KTLA showed the blood-covered woman holding the sword near a parked U-Haul box truck on South Huntington Avenue. She initially appeared to try showing the sword to the deputies but complied with their orders to put it down.

Police Statements

Lt. Vizcarra provided an update on the case, stating, “The preliminary investigation suggests that there may be a family connection, but again, because of the language barrier, we have not confirmed that.” He assured the public that there is no further threat to the community.

Conclusion

The LASD continues to investigate the details of this tragic event. The language barrier remains a significant obstacle, but detectives are working diligently to uncover the full story.

In the meantime, authorities have confirmed that the surrounding community is not at risk.
