Two men have been charged with murder in connection with the tragic killing of Johnny Wactor, a beloved actor known for his role on General Hospital.

The Los Angeles District Attorney’s office announced the charges on Monday, shedding light on the devastating incident that claimed the life of the 37-year-old actor.

The Incident: A Tragic Confrontation

Wactor was shot and killed on May 25th when he confronted three thieves who were attempting to steal the catalytic converter from his car.

The incident occurred after Wactor left work at a downtown LA rooftop bar with a coworker. As he approached the men who had hoisted his car, one of the thieves reportedly fired at him without provocation, leading to his untimely death.

Los Angeles District Attorney George Gascón expressed the collective grief over Wactor’s loss during a news conference, stating, “The loss of this talented young actor, who was in the prime of his life and had so much to offer the world, is deeply felt by all of us.”

The four suspects involved in the crime were arrested last Thursday. They include Robert Barceleau, 18; Sergio Estrada, 18; Leonel Gutierrez, 18; and Frank Olano, 22. Barceleau and Estrada have both been charged with murder, grand theft, and attempted robbery.

Barceleau faces additional charges, including special circumstances that could lead to a life sentence without the possibility of parole, while Estrada could also face a life sentence if convicted.

Gutierrez has been charged with grand theft and attempted robbery, while Olano faces charges as an accessory after the fact. It remains unclear whether any of the suspects have retained legal representation.

Community Response and Ongoing Investigation

Wactor’s death has sparked outrage and a call for justice within the Los Angeles community. A group of family and friends, calling themselves “Justice for Johnny,” held a rally last week, demanding more urgency in the investigation. Another rally was held on Monday morning, calling for aggressive prosecution of the suspects.

Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) interim chief Dominic Choi reassured the public during the news conference that the investigation has been a “relentless pursuit” in what he described as a “very difficult case.” The community, still reeling from the loss, continues to push for justice in memory of Johnny Wactor.
