Singer Olly Alexander has been chosen to represent the United Kingdom at the Eurovision Song Contest 2024 with his latest track “Dizzy,” released on streaming platforms last Friday.

He will officially launch his Eurovision campaign during an appearance on BBC Radio 2’s Zoe Ball show.

Introduction to Eurovision

The Eurovision Song Contest, an annual event organized by The European Broadcasting Union (EBU), is a renowned televised songwriting competition that garners attention worldwide.

Key Details of the 2024 Contest

The 2024 edition of Eurovision will feature 37 performers, each selected by their respective EBU member broadcasters to represent their countries on the international stage.

Contest rules mandate that songs must be original compositions, no longer than three minutes in duration, and performed live with a maximum of six singers and dancers on stage.

Participation and Hosting

While most Eurovision participants hail from European nations, countries like Australia and Israel are eligible due to their EBU membership.

However, if a non-European country were to win, they would need to nominate a European nation to host the event.

This year, the contest will be hosted in Sweden, with Malmo chosen as the venue. Malmo has previously hosted Eurovision twice, making it a familiar location for the competition.

Speculations and Event Details

Loreen, the winner of the 2023 Eurovision contest with her song “Tattoo,” achieved a significant milestone by becoming the first woman to win the contest twice.

However, despite speculation, members of the legendary band Abba confirmed they would not participate in the event.

The grand final of the 2024 Eurovision Song Contest is scheduled to take place in the Malmo Arena on Saturday, May 11. Prior to the final, semi-finals will be held on May 7 and May 9 to determine the finalists.
