Nominations for the 2024 Oscars will be revealed after a massive year for films, which saw Barbie and Oppenheimer overpower the box office.

Notable Films Expected in Nominations

As the eagerly awaited Oscar nominations are set to be announced, films such as “Poor Things,” “The Holdovers,” and “Killers of the Flower Moon” are predicted to feature prominently.

Stars like Cillian Murphy, Emma Stone, Robert Downey Jr, and Da’Vine Joy Randolph are anticipated to secure acting nominations.

Jimmy Kimmel to Host from Los Angeles

Jimmy Kimmel is set to host the upcoming Oscars ceremony, scheduled for March 10th in Los Angeles.

This year’s nominations, to be revealed at 13:30 GMT, are likely to see increased accessibility and interest due to the Barbenheimer phenomenon, where fans booked tickets to see both films on the same day last summer.

Rule Change Expanding Best Picture Category

Following a rule change aimed at broadening the field, the best picture category now guarantees 10 slots. “Oppenheimer,” “Barbie,” “Poor Things,” “Killers of the Flower Moon,” and “The Holdovers” are expected to secure nominations, with “Anatomy of a Fall,” “Maestro,” “The Zone of Interest,” “Past Lives,” and “American Fiction” also considered strong contenders.

Late Campaign for “Origin” Recognition

In a last-minute push, a campaign similar to last year’s surprise nomination for Andrea Riseborough is urging recognition for “Origin,” which missed out on precursor ceremonies.

Competitive Best Actor Category

The best actor category this year is notably competitive, with Paul Giamatti, a frontrunner for “The Holdovers.”

Cillian Murphy’s portrayal of theoretical physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer, Bradley Cooper’s role as composer Leonard Bernstein in “Maestro,” Colman Domingo’s depiction of civil rights activist Bayard Rustin in “Rustin,” and Jeffrey Wright’s role as a frustrated author in “American Fiction” are strong contenders.

Other Potential Contenders

Leonardo DiCaprio for “Killers of the Flower Moon,” Barry Keoghan for “Saltburn,” Zac Efron for “The Iron Claw,” and Andrew Scott for “All of Us Strangers” are also potential but slightly less likely contenders in the competitive best actor category. The final nominations will reveal the intense competition within the film industry this year.
