Attorneys representing Hunter Biden appeared before US District Judge Mark Scarsi in Los Angeles to request the dismissal of criminal charges accusing him of evading $1.4 million in taxes.

They argued that prosecutors succumbed to political pressure from Republican lawmakers investigating his father, Joe Biden.

Selective Targeting Allegations

Hunter’s lawyers pressed several legal challenges to the charges, including an assertion that he was selectively targeted by prosecutors in response to Republican criticism.

They argued that the decision to file charges came after months of accusations by Republicans and Donald Trump, suggesting leniency in his treatment.

Skeptical Reception from Judge

Judge Scarsi expressed skepticism about the dismissal request, questioning whether there was any evidence beyond the timeline to support the claim that prosecutors bowed to political pressure. He challenged Hunter’s lawyer, Abbe Lowell, on the lack of substantial evidence.

Juicy Timeline Argument

While Lowell acknowledged that the timeline was a significant factor, he emphasized its significance, referring to it as a “juicy timeline.” However, Judge Scarsi remained unconvinced, seeking further evidence to support the claim of political pressure influencing the case.

Doubts Over IRS Agents’ Influence

Scarsi also questioned the defense team’s argument regarding the influence of two Internal Revenue Service (IRS) agents who went public with information about Hunter’s tax returns. He challenged the connection between their actions and the decision to file charges.

Prosecutor’s Response

Prosecutor Leo Wise dismissed the notion that the IRS agents had influenced the decision to prosecute, labeling it as “patently absurd.” He emphasized that the indictment was based on the evidence and not influenced by external factors.

The legal battle over Hunter Biden’s tax evasion case continues, with Judge Scarsi expected to rule on the dismissal request in the coming weeks.
