A guy wanted for stealing a car is in charge after a dangerous high-speed pursuit on Southern California freeways ended in a dramatic collision Thursday evening. 

Initiation of Pursuit

The pursuit began around 8:45 p.m. on the northbound 405 Freeway, with the suspect driving a white Kia Soul at speeds of up to 100 miles per hour.

Reckless Maneuvers Through Traffic

During the chase, the suspect weaved through heavy traffic on the 405 and northbound 101 freeways, briefly exiting onto surface streets before returning to the freeway. Reports indicate that the suspect struck at least three vehicles, including one parked on the side of the road, without stopping.

Loss of Control and Collision

As the pursuit transitioned to the southbound 405, the driver lost control of the Kia Soul while attempting to cross multiple lanes of traffic, resulting in a collision with another vehicle. 

Subsequently, the suspect’s vehicle crashed into the sound wall, crossed the roadway, and collided with center dividers before coming to a stop.

Dramatic Aftermath

Footage captured by Sky5 showed extensive damage to the suspect’s vehicle, with deployed airbags and a popped-up hood. Police quickly surrounded the scene with guns drawn as the suspect, wearing a hooded sweatshirt, surrendered by raising his hands.

Freeway Closure and Traffic Disruption

The crash led to the complete shutdown of the southbound 405 Freeway, causing significant traffic congestion as authorities apprehended the suspect and cleared the wreckage from the roadway.
