Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer leads this year’s Bafta Film Award nominations with a total of 13.

Oppenheimer Dominates:

Christopher Nolan’s three-hour epic, “Oppenheimer,” starring Cillian Murphy as J. Robert Oppenheimer, the father of the atomic bomb, takes the lead with a remarkable 13 nominations. 

The film has already clinched eight Critics Choice Awards and five Golden Globes, earning nods in categories such as Best Film, Director, and Adapted Screenplay.

Barbie and Saltburn Stand Tall:

Summer blockbuster “Barbie” secures five nominations, tying with the cult hit drama “Saltburn.” Despite being the top-grossing film of 2023 and receiving positive reviews, “Barbie,” centered around the doll’s feminist awakening, surprisingly misses out on a Best Film nomination. 

Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling receive nods for Best Actress and Best Supporting Actor, respectively.

Poor Things Leads with 11 Nominations:

The film “Poor Things” receives recognition with 11 nominations, showcasing its strong presence in various categories. The nominations solidify its status as a prominent contender at the British Academy Film Awards.

Competitive Field for Best Director:

Christopher Nolan is nominated for Best Director for “Oppenheimer,” joined by Justine Triet for “Anatomy of a Fall.” 

The absence of Greta Gerwig from the Best Director shortlist raises eyebrows, while Andrew Haigh (“All of Us Strangers”) and Jonathan Glazer (“The Zone of Interest”) also compete in this prestigious category.

Diverse Selections:

The nominations reflect a diverse range of films, including the German-language film “The Zone of Interest,” which explores the life of a Nazi commandant near Auschwitz. “All of Us Strangers,” a romantic fantasy film, earns recognition, with Paul Mescal receiving an acting nomination.

Oscar Front-Runner:

Robert Downey Jr.’s supporting role in “Oppenheimer” positions him as the frontrunner for the Oscars, despite strong competition. 

The anticipation builds for the upcoming British Academy Film Awards, where the best in cinematic achievements will be celebrated.

Outstanding British Films:

“The Zone of Interest” competes in the Outstanding British Film category, highlighting its impact and relevance. Other contenders in this category include “All of Us Strangers,” “Wonka,” and “Napoleon.”
