California’s Offshore Earthquake:

At 8:27 a.m. Pacific time on Monday, a magnitude 4.1 earthquake was reported by the U.S. Geological Survey, originating offshore approximately 11 miles away from Rancho Palos Verdes, Southern California.

The seismic event occurred in proximity to Palos Verdes Estates, Rolling Hills Estates, Los Angeles, and Torrance.

Local Earthquake Trends:

Over the past 10 days, a single earthquake measuring 3.0 or higher was detected in the area. Historical data spanning three years suggests an average of five earthquakes annually, ranging between magnitudes 4.0 and 5.0, within the broader Los Angeles vicinity.

Impact and Observations:

Centered near San Pedro and Long Beach, the earthquake was felt by individuals in the area, prompting some to share their experiences on social media.

Fortunately, no injuries or damages were reported. Seismologist Dr. Lucy Jones noted that the quake was not associated with a known fault and was too minor to trigger a tsunami.

Japan’s Earthquake Events:

Simultaneously, Japan encountered a series of earthquakes, the largest registering at magnitude 7.5. The seismic activity struck a rural region in Ishikawa prefecture, specifically on the Noto Peninsula along Japan’s western coast, causing structural damage and fires.

The number of casualties remained unclear, with nearby cities such as Toyama and Kanazawa also experiencing the tremors, albeit with less intensity.

Impact on Communities:

Individuals in Playa del Rey and Victorville in California also sensed the tremors, sharing their accounts on social media platforms. Residents reported mild shaking and rattling but indicated no significant duration or impact.

Despite Japan’s recent seismic activity, no injuries or damages were reported following the offshore earthquake in California, occurring after Japan’s series of stronger quakes.
