Record-Breaking Viewership

Preliminary TV ratings for Sunday’s Super Bowl LVI put it just behind Apollo 11’s historic landing in terms of viewership, with an estimated 125 to 150 million people tuning in.

The thrilling game saw the Kansas City Chiefs defeat the San Francisco 49ers 25-22 in overtime, captivating audiences across the nation.

Taylor Swift’s Influence

The highly anticipated attendance of pop sensation Taylor Swift, who was there to support her boyfriend Travis Kelce, may have contributed to the increased viewership.

Speculation was rife leading up to the event about whether Swift would make it back from her tour in Japan.

While the extent of her impact on audience numbers is debatable, a flash poll conducted by consumer research firm Numerator suggested that 20% of Super Bowl viewers were rooting for the Chiefs due to Swift’s relationship with Kelce.

Broadcast and Streaming Platforms

Of the 123.4 million average viewers, 112 million watched the game on CBS, with others tuning in through various platforms including Paramount+, Nickelodeon, Univision, CBS Sports, and NFL digital channels. Additionally, a record 202.4 million people watched at least part of the game, indicating widespread interest and engagement.

Factors Contributing to High Ratings

Several factors likely contributed to this year’s exceptional viewership. The Chiefs’ defense of their championship title, combined with Usher’s electrifying half-time performance, served as major attractions.

Usher’s star-studded guest list, featuring Alicia Keys, H.E.R., and other renowned artists, added to the spectacle of the event.

Usher’s Personal Milestone

Amidst the Super Bowl fervor, Usher had another reason to celebrate as he tied the knot with his long-term partner Jennifer Goicoechea in Las Vegas, where the game was held.

The culmination of the game and Usher’s wedding marked a momentous occasion, capping off an unforgettable day in both sports and entertainment history.
