Hundreds of demonstrators assembled near the Dolby Theatre to protest what they described as Hollywood’s complicity in “U.S.-funded Israeli genocide against Palestinians in Gaza.”

The rally, organized by a coalition of groups including the U.S. Palestinian Community Network and Black Lives Matter LA, aimed to disrupt the Academy Awards and highlight concerns about the film industry’s stance on Israel’s actions.

Dispersal Order Issued by LAPD

The Los Angeles Police Department issued a dispersal order for unlawful assembly as the protest intensified, citing potential traffic disruptions in the surrounding area.

Despite efforts by police to maintain order, some protestors managed to breach a chainlink fence near the red carpet, prompting a swift response to prevent further intrusion.

While the majority of protestors dispersed after the Academy Awards concluded, a portion remained until attendees exited the venue for afterparties.

To mitigate disruption, crews from the Dolby Theatre erected temporary walls to block the red carpet from view. Despite these measures, the demonstration concluded peacefully by 8:30 p.m., with LAPD reporting restored traffic flow in the area.

One Arrest Made

Amid the protest, one individual was arrested for battery on a police officer, highlighting the tense atmosphere surrounding the event. Despite the arrest, the demonstration remained largely non-violent, with protestors voicing their grievances against Hollywood’s perceived support of Israeli actions in Gaza.
