Hailey Bieber reflects on keeping pregnancy under wraps and emotional challenges

Six Months of Secrecy

Hailey Bieber, model and founder of Rhode, recently opened up about the emotional challenges of keeping her pregnancy a secret for six months.

In a cover story for W Magazine’s Special Edition Summer Issue, Bieber, who is expecting her first child with husband Justin Bieber, shared her reasons and the impact of her decision.

“I probably could have hid it until the end,” she stated, but the 27-year-old admitted that she “didn’t enjoy the stress of not being able to enjoy my pregnancy outwardly.”

The Strain of Secrecy

Bieber described the experience as carrying a “big secret” that weighed on her emotionally. “I felt like I was hiding this big secret, and it didn’t feel good,” she said. “I wanted the freedom to go out and live my life.”

She managed to keep her pregnancy under wraps for so long because she “stayed small for a long time.” She added, “I didn’t have a belly, really, until I was six months pregnant, which was when I announced it. I was able to wear big jackets and stuff.”

Public Revelation

Hailey and Justin Bieber announced their baby news in May, sharing their joy on Instagram. A representative for Hailey confirmed to PEOPLE that she was just over six months pregnant at the time.

The announcement included a video from their vow renewal, with Hailey wearing a long, lacy white dress and veil that highlighted her growing bump. The couple also posted photos of themselves in a field, with Justin tenderly placing his arms around her belly.

Marriage and Family

The Biebers tied the knot in September 2018 at a New York City courthouse, just two months after getting engaged. They later held a larger ceremony in Bluffton, South Carolina, celebrating with family and friends.

Reflecting on her family dynamics, Hailey revealed to W that she’s “not super close with my family at this point in my life,” as she is “very independent” and has “built my own family.”

Emotional Beginnings

The beginning of her pregnancy was a “super emotional” period for Hailey. She shared her initial feelings, saying, “Like, ‘I love this human so much. How can I possibly bring someone else into this?'”

She is now trying to savor the days of being just with Justin. “I’m trying to soak in these days of it being Justin and me, just the two of us,” she explained, highlighting her efforts to cherish their time together before welcoming their new addition.
