Born with a flair for medical sciences, Dr. Parul Dua Makkar’s journey began with her completing her Bachelor of Science from the prestigious University of Central Oklahoma in 1999. Not just an ordinary achievement, she graduated Magna Cum Laude, showcasing her academic brilliance. Continuing her educational endeavors, she earned her DDS from the University of Oklahoma College of Dentistry in 2003.

Professional Journey

Before making a significant mark in New York, Dr. Makkar practiced her skills and expertise in Alberta, Canada. It was in New York where she fine-tuned her proficiency, undergoing GPR training at Staten Island University Hospital in 2007. Since then, Dr. Makkar has been offering top-notch dental services through her private practice. Today, she stands as the proud owner of PDM Family Dental in Long Island, NY.

A Personal Setback & A New Mission

Life took a heart-wrenching turn for Dr. Makkar when she lost her only and younger sibling, Dr. Manu Dua, to the malicious clutches of Oral Cancer. Dr. Dua, a dentist himself, left a void in Dr. Makkar’s life. However, she transformed her grief into purpose. With a renewed vigor, she took on the mantle of spreading awareness about Oral Cancer. Devoting her time selflessly, she educates both doctors and patients about the risk factors, prevention methods, and the immense value of early diagnosis.

Accolades & Achievements

In recognition of her commendable efforts, Dr. Makkar has been showered with several awards. Her name gleams in the records of the Denobi Awards 2022, LI Excellence in Healthcare 2022, and Power Woman of Long Island 2022. Further, she has been graced with the Outstanding Women’s Achievement Award by the Indian American Forum in 2023. To top it all, she has been named both Healthcare Hero and Hometown Hero in May 2023.

Dr. Makkar’s mission doesn’t stop at her practice. Her voice echoes in various dental journals across the American, Canadian, and British regions. A voracious writer, she co-authored the motivational book ‘Life Interrupted, Dr. Dua’s Survival Guide’, which has been recognized by the CIPA EVVY Award and NYC Big Book Award. Furthermore, she regularly shares her insights on various platforms, be it through lectures, podcasts, or guest appearances.

Wellness Ambassador & Future Endeavors

Currently, Dr. Makkar serves as a Wellness Ambassador to the American Dental Association, emphasizing the belief that oral care is the gateway to overall well-being.
