Blake Lively recently took a trip down memory lane, reminiscing about the early days of her relationship with Ryan Reynolds and her surprise cameo in the new Marvel movie, “Deadpool & Wolverine.”

On Friday, July 26, Lively, 36, shared her red carpet look from the movie’s July 22 premiere in New York City on Instagram, along with details about her role as Ladypool.

A Trip Down Memory Lane

“In 2010, I was on ‘Gossip Girl’ and about to film my first superhero movie, ‘The Green Lantern,’ with my kind Canadian costar @vancityreynolds,” Lively wrote, recalling the early days with her husband, Ryan Reynolds.

The pair began dating in 2011 and married in 2012. It was during this time that Reynolds first introduced Lively and their costar, Taika Waititi, to Marvel’s Deadpool character.

The Meta Superhero

“It was a ‘meta’ superhero,” she wrote. “Most of us didn’t know what exactly meta meant back then. Except Taika because he’s always been more brilliant than the rest of us mortals.

We understood in theory, but how it would come together for an audience was murky, for everyone but him. It wasn’t a real dream. The movie was never gonna happen.”

Inspiration for Ladypool

Lively revealed that the comic book artist who co-created Deadpool, Rob Liefeld, had conceived of a Lady Deadpool character in 2010, inspired by Lively because he was a fan of her series “Gossip Girl.”

“Rob had no idea I was working with @vancityreynolds,” she wrote, adding that she only learned about Liefeld’s inspiration in 2022 after he shared the information on Instagram.

From Dream to Reality

“12 years later I read Rob’s post. A year after that, @deadpoolmovie 3 was filmed,” she added. “And today it’s in theaters. The universe has such a magical sense of humor sometimes.” Lively’s dream casting came true as she portrays Lady Deadpool in one scene in “Deadpool & Wolverine.”

Additionally, the couple’s 7-year-old daughter, Inez Reynolds, makes a surprise cameo in the film as Kidpool.

Family Cameo and Future Generations

Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds also share daughters James, 9, Betty, 4, and a fourth child named Olin. The family’s involvement in “Deadpool & Wolverine” highlights the close-knit nature of their family and adds a special touch to the film’s release.

With this heartwarming reflection, Lively not only celebrates her role in the Marvel universe but also the serendipitous journey of her relationship with Reynolds and the magical moments that life sometimes brings.
