Varada Sethu will join Doctor Who, portraying Ncuti Gatwa’s companion in his second part as the Doctor.

Varada Sethu, who recently appeared in the Disney+ Star Wars series Andor, expressed her gratitude at being part of the show, calling it an “honour.” 

Her first series as the Doctor is set to begin in May, alongside Coronation Street actress Millie Gibson, who plays companion Ruby Sunday. The BBC has confirmed that Sethu will continue in the role alongside the pair in the following series, scheduled for broadcast in 2025.

A Journey Through the Whoniverse

In addition to her role in Andor, Sethu has appeared in notable productions such as the 2018 crime drama Hard Sun and Jurassic World Dominion.

Describing her involvement in Doctor Who as an “honour,” Sethu expressed her excitement at being part of the iconic Whoniverse. She praised her co-stars Ncuti Gatwa and Millie Gibson, stating that she feels incredibly fortunate to embark on this adventure with them.

Companion Speculation and Character Dynamics

Earlier speculation about Sethu’s role in Doctor Who fueled rumors that she might replace Gibson as a companion. However, details about her character remain undisclosed. 

The BBC has released images of Sethu alongside Gatwa and Gibson during a table read for an upcoming episode, teasing fans with hints of the trio’s dynamic on-screen. Showrunner Russell T Davies expressed his delight in welcoming Sethu to the TARDIS, citing their previous collaboration on a BBC production as a joyous reunion.

Exciting Developments and Premiere Details

As Doctor Who gears up for its return on May 11, viewers can expect some significant changes. For the first time, the series will premiere on BBC iPlayer at midnight before airing on BBC One later that day. 

With Sethu joining the cast, alongside Gatwa and Gibson, the stakes are set to be higher than ever as the trio prepares to take on new adventures across time and space.
