Plot Overview: 

In Netflix’s upcoming limited series “Eric,” Benedict Cumberbatch takes on the role of Vincent, a father on a desperate quest to find his missing son, Edgar (played by Ivan Morris Howe), alongside Gaby Hoffmann’s character Cassie. 

Set against the backdrop of 1980s New York, the series follows Vincent’s unconventional approach to finding Edgar, which involves bringing a monster puppet named Eric to life on his children’s television show.

Vincent’s Descent into Obsession: 

As the search for Edgar intensifies, Vincent becomes increasingly fixated on the idea of bringing Eric to life as a way to lure his son back home.

Despite Cassie’s concerns about his mental state, Vincent remains determined, believing that featuring Eric on his show will send a message to Edgar of their unwavering love and desire for his return.

Struggles and Tensions: 

Vincent’s obsession with Eric leads to escalating tension within his family and professional life. As his behavior becomes more erratic, Vincent finds himself alienating those around him, including the detectives working on Edgar’s case. 

Throughout the series, Eric emerges as Vincent’s sole ally in his quest to reunite with his son, despite being a product of his delusions.

Star-Studded Cast and Creative Team: 

Alongside Cumberbatch and Hoffmann, “Eric” features McKinley Belcher III, Dan Fogler, and Clarke Peters in key roles. The series was created, written, and executive produced by Abi Morgan, known for her work on acclaimed projects such as “Chernobyl” and “The Iron Lady.” 

Cumberbatch himself serves as an executive producer, alongside Jane Featherstone, Lucy Dyke, and director Lucy Forbes.

At the core of “Eric” lies a poignant exploration of parenthood, marriage, mental health, and societal issues prevalent in the 1980s and still resonant today. 

Cumberbatch emphasized the series’ relevance to contemporary issues such as homophobia and racism, highlighting its ability to reflect the complexities of the human experience.
