Jeremy Renner, the star of “Mayor of Kingstown,” is focusing on his recovery following a near-fatal snowplow accident earlier this year.

During his appearance on the “Smartless” podcast on Monday, June 24, Renner, 53, candidly discussed the challenges he faces and why he’s currently stepping back from demanding roles.

Energy and Recovery

Renner admitted that he doesn’t have the energy to take on challenging acting roles as he continues to recuperate. “I just don’t have the energy for it. I don’t have the fuel,” he confessed.

“I have so much fuel to put into this reality, this body, all this stuff. I can’t just go play make-believe right now. Because that takes a lot of time to get right here every day just so I can have a positive thought, so I can progress, so I can always keep growing.”

The Terrifying Accident

On January 1, 2023, the “Hawkeye” star was involved in a severe accident when he was run over by a 14,300-lb. snowplow.

He was helping a family member free a stuck vehicle after an estimated three feet of snowfall the previous night. The incident left him with 38 broken bones, a collapsed lung, and significant chest trauma.

A New Outlook on Life

Now on the path to recovery, Renner revealed how the experience has changed his perspective. He spoke about valuing the present moment and accepting “divine intervention.” Despite his newfound outlook, he admitted that the thought of returning to acting was daunting.

“Because I’m to do, like, f––ing fiction? I’m still trying to live in reality, I’m trying to live. So it was a hard line for me to cross,” he explained. “It was a big stretch. It was very, very challenging for me mentally to get over that hump.”

Renner’s journey underscores his determination to heal and prioritize his well-being, showing that sometimes, even superheroes need to take a step back and focus on recovery.
