In a recent interview with BBC Newsbeat, actor Anthony Mackie, best known for his roles in action-packed films, divulged a surprising detail about his driving habits.

Despite his on-screen persona, Mackie admits, “I drive a big Ford with a lift kit and big tyres. I am not a speed guy.” He humorously adds, “I barely ever go over 25 miles an hour. I’m the guy driving and people drive past me and flip me off because I’m going too slow.”

Contrast in On-screen Persona and Real-life Habits

This revelation stands in stark contrast to the high-speed antics depicted in the trailer for his latest show, Twisted Metal. In the series, Mackie’s character is seen performing doughnuts in a sports car inside an abandoned mall.

Twisted Metal is based on the PlayStation game series, a futuristic demolition derby contest. Mackie acknowledges that while he played the game as a kid, he confesses he “sucked” at it.

In Twisted Metal, Mackie stars as John Doe, a quirky courier navigating a post-apocalyptic USA.

Tasked with transporting a mysterious package across the wasteland, John encounters Mad Max-style gangs and evades Sweet Tooth, the sinister clown mascot from the games. Despite the dystopian setting, Twisted Metal is a comedy.

Challenges in Adapting the Series

Mackie explains, “We didn’t want to overthink it… The game didn’t really have a story, a background, or a world that it was setting.

It was just people blowing each other up.” Adapting Twisted Metal posed challenges compared to other video game adaptations like The Last of Us, which had a well-defined world.

Mackie acknowledges the risk involved, stating, “It’s definitely harder because it’s more likely that you will mess it up.”

Conclusion

Anthony Mackie’s revelation about his driving habits offers an amusing insight into the contrast between his on-screen persona and real-life personality.

As he navigates the post-apocalyptic world of Twisted Metal, audiences can expect a comedic twist on the action-packed gaming franchise.
