Insurance Industry Accusations

Adrian Mardell, speaking on behalf of Range Rover, challenges recent reports suggesting that the luxury SUV is “Britain’s most stolen vehicle.” Mardell accuses the insurance industry of not considering all relevant data when determining coverage and premiums for UK owners.

JLR’s Own Insurance Launch

In response to soaring insurance costs and difficulties in obtaining coverage, Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) launched its own insurance last year. Mardell’s statements come as a robust defense against what he perceives as unfair targeting of Range Rovers by insurers.

Denying ‘Most Stolen’ Title

Mardell vehemently denies the claim that Range Rovers, particularly the Velar model, hold the title of the “most-stolen car.” He labels this information as “misinformation” and dispels the notion that his business has been singled out unfairly.

Concerns Over Car Thefts

Reports indicate a rise in car thefts in recent years, causing concern among car manufacturers about potential impacts on demand, particularly for luxury models like Range Rovers. Mardell addresses these concerns, asserting that thefts of Range Rovers fell by 27% in the previous year.

Security of New Models

Mardell emphasizes the security features of new Range Rover models, stating that only 11 out of 12,800 vehicles sold were reported stolen according to police data. He challenges insurance companies to readily insure these new, secure vehicles and questions the industry’s responsiveness to data.

Insurance Industry Critique

Expressing frustration, Mardell criticizes the insurance industry for being slow to respond to relevant data and accuses them of perpetuating a “myth” regarding thefts of Range Rovers. He contends that insurers should willingly provide coverage for the secure new models.

Impact on Owners

Reports surface of UK Range Rover owners facing exorbitant insurance costs, with one owner quoted £890 a month.

The financial strain has led some to declare their vehicles off the road. Mardell’s statements aim to rectify what he perceives as misinformation impacting both Range Rover’s reputation and owners’ financial well-being.
